We are talking of the falls in elders. Most of the falls are in the bathroom, and the top reason is slippery floor. We have seen what can be done to clean the clean the floor, by scrubbing with a brush.
Now brush cleaning may not be possible and we may like to have an easier method.
This is CHEMICAL METHOD.
In this a chemical – like caustic soda, or a mild acid or some branded chemical is put on the floor and after a few minutes, it is cleaned away. Chemical “eats” the soapy layer on the floor. After washing the floor all the chemicals are removed and the floor is very clean.
This method is quite fast. It does not require a lot of hard work.
But we have to be cautious.
For safety, it is recommended to use
GLOVES ..
These are rubber or latex gloves. These are heavier than medical gloves. They can be cleaned and used multiple times. These are also good to use while cleaning utensils.
MOP
There are many mops in the market. They are very convenient.
The cleaning or wiping at one end can be of different type and material.
Let me show different type of mop heads.
SLIPPERS
Please put on slippers as well. Chemicals even in small quantities can create problems on the foot. So a rubber slipper – like a flip flop or Hawai Chappals are the best to put on.
CHEMICALS
There are many chemicals that are used. Many are generic and many are branded.
Caustic Soda. This is a widely used chemical in the industry for cleaning any type of greasy substance. Just use a tea spoon, and put it in half bucket of water. It will dissolve. Then with a mug put it on the floor. Spread it all over the floor. After a few mins – just wipe it. Then wash it with fresh water.
This works very fast.
But we need to be careful as this causes harm to the skin.
HARPIC is a branded product. It has a bathroom floor cleaner. Just put it on the floor. It spreads on it’s own, and cleans all the slippery floor. After a few mins, just wipe it and clean the floor with fresh water.
Some floor cleaners are .. HARPIC, LIZOL, PRESTO, NIMYLE, DOMEX, CLOROX and many more. These are available on Amazon or Flipkart and even quick commerce. All are good.
Best is to do this cleaning every week, and the floor will remain free of slippery soap layer.
After doing the cleaning, just leave it to dry for about 15 mins or more and that is good to go for our elders.
The floor is now slip free – and safe.
